Where do we begin?! Troy Martin built our retirement home on Shanty Creek and he made it an experience of a lifetime. And as always, Troy was very positive, calm, pleasant, and helpful – even when we threw him some curveballs – larger deck, last-second mantle, and other changes. He always listened to our wants and needs & responded immediately with suggestions & assurances. He made us feel confident about the build – he does quality work, he is very diligent, and does it all with a big smile. He is very proud of his work and if he sees anything wrong, he does not sleep until it is fixed. We lived nearby and walked to the building site every day and we were always happily surprised at the progress. He has a great team and they all respect Troy and it shows. Choosing a builder is the most important choice you will make and we highly recommend Troy to anyone looking to build their dream home. Not only is Troy a great builder, but he is the type of guy that will be our friend for life. We’ve been in our home for 3 months now and it is beyond our expectations.

We first met Troy in September 2020 and were immediately impressed with his ability to thoughtfully listen to our ideas and how at ease he made us feel dealing with such a huge undertaking. He had great suggestions for how we could get started creating our dream home. Over the next few
months Troy came up with a great final design for our house. We formalized the process in May, 2021, and moved into our home in April, 2022.

We are submitting this letter as a testimonial for the Troy Martin Building and Design Company, as we have just recently moved into our dream retirement home, built by Troy Martin Building and Design. We are extremely pleased with the quality of construction, the design service, the ability to complete our home on schedule and within the original budget, as specified by Troy and ourselves (we were very much involved in the design and specifications).

We first met Troy in October of 2015, soon after completing the sale of our “weekender” condo at Shanty Creek Resort, near Bellaire, MI. We already owned a building site at Cedar River Village, on the Cedar River Golf Course, one of the premier golf courses in N. Michigan. With the help of a site review and survey, and with knowledge of our “needs and wants” Troy designed the home that would be exactly what we were looking for. The process of design, specifications, and quoting is critical, and Troy did a very detailed job, allowing us to make changes, as needed, to meet our budget and desires.

By April of 2016, and once the ground had thawed sufficiently, the construction project was officially underway. Our target for completion and to move into our new home was early to mid-December 2016. Troy did a phenomenal job of keeping the project on track, both with respect to timing and budget. Any changes that we asked for, during construction, were quoted accurately and implemented quickly. Most importantly, Troy was always accessible for questions and concerns, and he does everything possible to ensure his clients are getting the home of their dreams.

Our home was completed, inspections passed, and Certificate of Occupancy issued in mid-December, and we were moved in before the Holidays, according to plan. We could not be more pleased with the layout, design, and quality of construction. We truly have the home of our dreams, thanks to the great work of Troy Martin Building and Design.

How many people can say “We built a new home and had the greatest experience doing it?” We had a blast building our home! Troy was very patient and when our “wish list” wandered outside our budget, he provided fantastic recommendations as to how we could have the home we wanted within the initial budget.

When it came time for us to select our cabinetry, flooring, lighting etc, Troy referred us to the local vendors. Thank goodness we were provided with this direction – two accountants are definitely not design coordinators. The vendors provided priceless help as we waded through the mounds of options and were able to coordinate a look that met all our desires.

We continue to comment on how impressed we are with the overall experience of not just achieving a beautiful building, but a true home - from the collaboration of turning our dreams into a reality, to the lasting friendships we will have with all the people involved in the project. With the unbelievable guidance, knowledge and patience of Troy Martin, we have a beautiful home.

In March of 2016, we met Troy Martin after eighteen months of working with another design build firm. We knew in our hearts a change in builders was necessary but were afraid of the cost and the probability our desired start date for our project would be compromised. After our initial conversation with Troy, we were extremely excited to find out the desired time frame was doable and other details would work out just fine. Many other factors came together as well when we learned of Troy’s background and reputation. He was highly recommended by many people including two families he had already built houses for on our lake.

Some of Troy’s biggest assets are his willingness to listen and provide guidance during the entire process. His open line of communication is excellent. Another impressive quality Troy exemplifies is the relationship he has with his sub-contractors, colleagues and suppliers. Everyone we have worked with is an expert in their field, has been extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. It does not matter how wonderful or talented a builder is if they do not have the respect and dedication of their sub-contractors; it is obvious Troy is well-liked and respected throughout the industry.

As of today, we are in the drywall phase and very much looking forward to moving into our dream home later this spring. We are certain we would not be this far along and on budget with our plans without Troy Martin Building and Design and certainly not having this much fun!

Our current home, which was built by Troy 6 years before we bought it, is the best built home we have ever owned and still, to this day, looks brand new.

We have had 2 major remodeling projects completed by Troy on this house and even when I tell visitors what was completed, they are unable to find any signs of the projects. Troy and his team were able to make them look seamless to the original house. We couldn't be happier with the results of either project. In fact, we are getting ready to complete a third project this year and we will not consider anyone but Troy for this job.
